Private funding for privately held Swiss biotechs reached a new high in 2025, rising 38% to 1.15 billion Swiss francs, according to an SBA report produced with partners including EY. The data suggests momentum continued for a third straight year, even as the benefits were unevenly distributed across the sector.

A small group of financings accounted for a large share of the total, led by rounds for Windward Bio and GlycoEra, alongside Orbis Medicines, Nuclidium, and Rhygaze. While the concentration among top rounds eased versus prior years, the report notes many companies still saw little to no private investment.

The picture was more mixed across markets overall: public biotech funding in Switzerland declined, while private rounds represented a larger slice of total capital raised. These trends arrive as Basel pushes to strengthen its position as a biotech hub, amid concerns that policy and budget pressures could affect research capacity and talent flows.
