A PRNewswire release from Basel Area Business & Innovation says ongoing policy volatility in the US is prompting life sciences companies—and leading researchers—to look for a steadier place to grow. It positions the Basel region as a natural landing spot, citing its established pharma/biotech footprint, central European access, nearby universities, and a supportive innovation environment.

 

One example highlighted is immunologist Dr. Stephen Wilson, who moved from the US to lead the Botnar Institute of Immune Engineering (BIIE) at the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area. With backing of more than $1 billion from Fondation Botnar, BIIE is building teams to advance immune-based diagnostics and therapeutics for children—an effort Wilson links to the need for predictable, science-supportive policies. Basel Area Business & Innovation’s CEO, Christof Klöpper, adds that US pharma and biotech firms are increasingly setting up operations locally, drawn by long-term policy certainty alongside regional advantages such as taxes and quality of life.
