The globally active firm IBSA Institut Bioquimique has opened its largest production plant, known as COSMOS, at its headquarters in Collina d'Oro to the south of Lugano in the canton of Ticino. Sustainability, innovation and beauty are the cornerstones of the pharmaceutical company’s new facility, further details of which can be found in a press release. Across an area of 16,200 square meters, COSMOS will offer space for more than 250 employees.
“A year ago, we began to talk about our commitment to a sustainability integrated in the social, environmental and economic domain, with investments in infrastructures, services and projects available to the Ticino community”, comments Arturo Licenziati, President and CEO of IBSA, in the press release. The inauguration of the COSMOS plant represents a “major phase of this process”, he adds.
As an example, keynote speaker Andrea Bernardazzi, the Mayor of Collina d'Oro, cited the complete redevelopment of a district in IBSA’s home region of Pian Scairolo. Christian Vitta, Head of the Ticino Department of Finance and Economics, described the company as a crucial resource for innovation and technology transfer processes in the region, for growth in the Ticino economy and the social fabric of the local area.
IBSA was founded in 1945 in Lugano. The Group is represented in 90 countries across five continents and employs a total of 2,000 staff. The company covers numerous therapy areas with its drugs and can be considered a global market leader in the area of reproductive medicine and hyaluronic acid products.
