The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) is based in the USA but operates across the world. Its goal is to promote innovation and impact in economic and business education. Universities accredited by AACSB have demonstrated a particularly high level of quality and successfully promoted aspects such as inclusion and diversity, cross-border thinking, a strong sense of ethics and social responsibility.
The Universität of St.Gallen (HSG) has been accredited by AACSB since 2003. This accreditation must be renewed every five years. The AACSB came to a decision following a reaccreditation process, meaning that HSG may now display this seal of quality for a further five years. During this process, HSG impressed on account of its contacts to the real economy, a holistic approach towards corporate social responsibility, commitment to teaching and student learning, as well as its alumni network and their dedication. Moreover, HSG also scored well in terms of its entrepreneurial spirit and cooperation. The reaccreditation process comprises firstly an AACSB documentation process followed by an evaluation by a group of experts from other business schools.
In Switzerland, four universities have been accredited by AACSB. In addition to HSG, the other three institutes are the Faculty of Business, Economics and Informatics at the University of Zurich, ZHAW School of Management and Law and the International Institute for Management Development (IMD). A total of 831 universities worldwide have been awarded the seal of quality – including Harvard, Stanford and Yale in the USA.
In addition to its accreditation from AACSB, HSG has also been awarded other seals of quality. In this context, HSG has been accredited by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) under its EQUIS scheme for quality assurance since 2001.
