Zurich to become a FinTech mecca

UBS, Credit Suisse,Swiss Life, Ernst & Young and Swisscom are launching a FinTech accelerator programme. Start-ups from around the world will be able to come to Zurich to develop their business ideas.

The five Swiss partner companies are joining forces to put Zurich on the map as one of the world’s best locations to establish a FinTech start-up. The programme, which begins in summer 2016, is geared towards the most promising FinTech start-ups worldwide that are still in an early stage, writes Credit Suisse in a news release.

The programme is mainly focused on wealth management, digital identity and block chain, for which Switzerland offers location advantages. Successful applicants will receive support to further develop their business ideas in Zurich, where they will also benefit from the expertise of the partner companies and access to the financial industry.

The FinTech programme is a part of the Kickstart Accelerator, a DigitalZurich2025 initiative that runs three other focus programmes in the fields of food, smart and connected machines, and future and emerging technologies. Participants of all four programmes will be able to interact with each other and take advantage of synergies.

The two largest Swiss banks UBS and Credit Suisse, the insurance company Swiss Life, the consultancy firm Ernst & Young, and Swiss ICT provider Swisscom announced the new programme at CeBIT in Hanover, the world’s largest ICT trade fair. Switzerland is this year’s partner country at CeBIT.
