Pharmaceutical technical branch in Russia: overview, important issues and practical experience

On the one hand, the COVID-19 crisis has seriously influenced supply chains of local pharmaceutical production in Russia, demonstrating once again the country's dependence on foreign ingredients. On the other hand, according to the data of the pharmaceutical information agency DSM Group, the sales of medicines in Russia in 2020 have grown in volume and value. 

The pharmaceutical sector will remain a strategically important sector for the Russian economy. According to the Strategy 2030 for the pharmaceutical market two main trends will mark the industry: ensuring the safety and medicinal independence of the country in general and supporting the export of Russian products abroad. 

Both directions imply the development of local production as well as investments in new production facilities in the future. Thus, for Swiss pharmaceutical equipment manufacturers several business opportunities are opening up in the medium term, even if there are considerable uncertainties in the immediate future.
