A Memorandum of Understanding to set up a joint Artificial Intelligence Lab was signed between China’s Malong Technologies and the University of Bern.

The signing ceremony took place in Shenzhen on the sidelines of China Hi-Tech Fair 2018.

The signing ceremony was held on Friday, 16 November in Shenzhen, in the presence of Vice Mayor Ai Xuefeng and Christoph Ammann, Minister of Economic Affairs of the canton of Bern. The MoU will engender collaboration on developing advanced AI technologies for medical imaging application through the creation of a joint AI Lab. Based in the city of Shenzhen and in the canton of Bern, the new lab will exploit the cross synergies to accelerate the translation of research into commercially viable products.

"It is a privilege and honor to work along with Malong to develop state-of-the-art AI technology for neuroimaging applications," said Mauricio Reyes, head of the Medical Image Analysis group at the Institute for Surgical Technology and Biomechanics at the University of Bern.

Dinglong Huang, CEO of Malong Technologies, said with the new joint lab, "we take a major step toward realizing our dream of bringing AI benefits to everyone".

Founded in 2014, Malong Technologies is an award-winning AI start-up that develops products and solutions for businesses, particularly in retail and healthcare. For retail, Malong is the maker of ProductAI, the industry leader in visual product recognition. For healthcare, the company has developed MedicalAI, a world-class technology for neurovascular, orthopedic and thoracic image analysis.

Bern and Shenzhen, where Malong’s headquarters are located, are no strangers to cooperative efforts. In 2015, a Twinning Agreement was signed between the Swiss canton and the Chinese city, with the aim of bringing the economies of the two regions closer together by promoting partnerships in the areas of culture, tourism, technology and education.
