With an investment of 1.3 million francs over 4 years, this first Master’s program in artificial intelligence will propose a one-of-a-kind, job-creating solution, not only for the canton of Valais, but all of Switzerland.

“This model is unique in the world", explains Hervé Bourlard, director of the Valais-based artificial intelligence research institute IDIAP. “A dual Master’s program in applied artificial intelligence simply does not exist.”

This new academic training is aimed at individuals already in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in computer science. These students will have a full-time employment over at a partner company, where they will complete a project linked to artificial intelligence. This program will start from February 2019 and last three semesters.

Multiple partners

This project is the result of a strategic partnership between the IDIAP, world leader in artificial intelligence and UniDistance, the Swiss expert in distance learning, to develop joint projects within the academic field.

Tourism, energy, agriculture or the industry in general are economic sectors particularly impacted by digitization. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the keys in responding to the digital evolution of these fields. The need for expertise is therefore very high. This new training course aims to fill the gap in terms of theoretical and practical competencies required by SMEs and multinational companies.
