Postponed // Infrastructure mission to Chile

Postponed until further notice due to coronavirus

The health of our customers, partners and employees is a top priority for Switzerland Global Enterprise. Against the background of the current situation regarding the spread of the coronavirus, we are therefore postponing our mission to Chile. Alternatively, we offer our customers an exchange with our experts via digital channels at any time - Fabio Speciale is at your disposal and will also be happy to answer any questions you might have.

This year, the Road Tunnels Division of the Chilean Ministry of Public Works aims to work on the tunnel chapter of the national road manual, which include the standards for the design, construction and operation of road tunnels. In this context, they identified 4 countries as international benchmark from which they like to learn. Therefore, they organize together with the Comité de Túneles Subterráneos de Chile (CTES) a seminar called «International Standards in Road Tunnels» to which they will invite representatives from the four chosen countries: Switzerland, Austria, Norway and Spain.

Fact-Finding Mission on Infrastructure to Chile

The framework program (see below) is an offer for Swiss companies, who wish to make the most of the seminar and their visit to Santiago. The activities planned include a welcome dinner with the Ambassador, visit of an emblematic construction site, the participation at the seminar and excellent networking activities with key stakeholder responsible for upcoming important infrastructure projects.

Seminar «International Standards in Road Tunnels»

The seminar (see detailed program below) will last 2 days, each country will have 3 hours of presentation to present their experiences and knowledge in regards to:

  • General approach to the design and construction
  • Structure of the norms/standards/regulations (mandatory vs. recommended)
  • Technical aspects such as project & contract managemen, planning, safety (alarm systems, ventilation, doors, rescue exits, nets), geometric design and construction stage as well as requirements for field research
  • Best practice cases

During the seminar, the companies will be able to exhibit their services and products in a fair set up to all participants.

Why participate?

The ministry of public works will present the most relevant national and binational projects of the coming years. Therefore, this seminar not only provides the opportunity to present the norms, best practices and state of the art projects but also gives insights about Chile’s infrastructure plans and can be used as a networking platform.

While the focus is on road tunnel standards in Chile, the organizers believe it will become an important benchmark for the entire tunneling industry in Latin America. They intend to invite other countries from the region to join this standard.
