Research and innovation in Switzerland 2016: first detailed report out

The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) has released its first comprehensive report on research and innovation in Switzerland. The report gives insight into the Swiss research and innovation landscape, reveals comparisons between countries and regions and analyses specific topics in scientific studies.

Switzerland continuously appears among the top listed countries in worldwide research and innovation rankings. What is the secret of its success? And what is required to ensure that Switzerland continues to be seen as one of the world's most innovative economies? The "Research and Innovation in Switzerland 2016" report provides answers to these questions. It is aimed at all stakeholders who have an interest in the innovative landscape of Switzerland and want to know facts and figures. It serves as a reference work and basis for discussion. The report is to be updated every four years.

The "Research and Innovation in Switzerland 2016" report is structured as follows:

  • Part A: The Swiss research and innovation system

    The first part describes the fundamentals of the Swiss research and innovation system, its structure and players involved.

  • Part B: Swiss research and innovation in international comparison

    How does the Swiss research and innovation system compare to other economies? Part B presents the different factors that are related to investment, interaction and performance. An updated version of this section will be made available electronically every two years.

  • Part C: Specific topics

    In the third part, the following four aspects of the Swiss research and innovation system are examined more closely by scientific experts:

    Study 1: Research and innovation activities of small and medium-sized enterprises in Switzerland

    Study 2: Research and innovation activities of multinationals in Switzerland

    Study 3: Supply and demand in public innovation promotion

    Study 4: Universities of applied sciences in the Swiss research and innovation system
