Metrohm introduces Raman library

Metrohm, a manufacturer of precision chemical analysis equipment from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden, has introduced a Raman library. The database includes the spectra of more than 16,200 organic and inorganic compounds that can be compared like a fingerprint.

Metrohm, a manufacturer of chemical analysis equipment based in the St.GallenBodenseeArea, has announced the introduction of a comprehensive Raman library. According to a press release, the new database contains 16,200 spectra of various substances. Users can compare their own spectra with the library and identify the substances being examined. A Raman spectrum is like a chemical fingerprint that clearly identifies a molecule or material. Just like a human fingerprint, it can be compared with reference libraries to quickly identify the material or differentiate it from others.

The new library is based on the Illicit and Common Materials Library and the USP Certified Compounds Library and is one of the largest available collections of Raman spectra. It can be used for  handsets and lab systems and in particular for Metrohm’s MIRA XTR DS and MIRA P instruments as well as for B&W Tek TacticID and i-Raman equipment.

The database contains Raman spectra of 7,000 organic and 2,250 inorganic or organometallic compounds. Additionally, 1,900 polymers and plastics, 1,700 personal care products, and 150 dyes, paints and pigments are cataloged.

Nancy Morris, CEO of Metrohm Spectro, commented in the press release: “Metrohm built this library from the ground up with the goal to make the largest and most meaningful library for all of our customers. The work continues, so we can offer the most complete and effective Raman experience possible.”
