The inauguration of Olympic House will be the culmination of a journey that started back in 2012 when the IOC decided to move ahead with the consolidation of its head office. Developed by Danish architecture firm 3XN, the Olympic House will allow the IOC to bring together its staff – 500 employees currently spread across Lausanne in four locations – under one roof at a single site.
From 23 June onwards, the IOC will benefit from two Olympic centers in Lausanne : Olympic House in Vidy to cater for its administration and offer a welcoming meeting place for all its stakeholders ; and the Olympic Museum and the Olympic Studies Center in Ouchy to host the general public.
A commitment to Lausanne, the Olympic Capital
With the opening of Olympic House the IOC confirms its attachment to Lausanne (canton of Vaud), the Olympic Capital. The first stone of the building was laid in 2015, which celebrated 100 years of the IOC’s presence in Lausanne.
The Olympic House is a privately funded investment in sustainability, operational efficiency and local development. The project represents an investment by the IOC in the local economy, just as it has done for over a century. The IOC partnered with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) and offered local architecture students the chance to come up with innovative solutions with regard to the reuse of materials from the former building prior to its deconstruction. A number of other projects in collaboration with local associations and schools were also initiated throughout the building process.
