Samco and OST - Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences have agreed a partnership in the field of microtechnology. The international manufacturer of semiconductor processing systems based in Rugell in Liechtenstein has installed its RIE-10NR plasma etching system in the clean room located at the university’s Buchs campus in the canton of St.Gallen, as OST writes in a press release. The OST campus in Buchs, which is situated only ten minutes by car from Rugell, offers “comprehensive support”, including additional equipment for wafer processing, the press release explains further.

At the university’s analytics lab, the thicknesses of the wafer layers can be measured and analyzed using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The Institute for Microtechnology and Photonics (IMP) at OST anticipates that the partnership with Samco will provide fresh impetus to industry-related R&D activities in the field of microtechnology.
