Export Award 2023: three impressive finalists named

Three internationally successful Swiss companies have been nominated for this year’s Export Award: Dagsmejan, from Zurich; Megasol, from Deitingen; and Straton, from Mägenwil. The prize is awarded by Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE), every year to a company that has distinguished itself internationally with a targeted market cultivation strategy and a clear unique selling point. The winner will be chosen at the International Trade Forum to be held on April 26, 2023 at the SwissTech Convention Center in Lausanne.

Export Award 2023
The Export Award is presented to an internationally successful company every year

Ongoing geopolitical changes present new challenges for internationally active SMEs every day. The costs of energy and raw materials, supply chain problems, trade barriers and currency risks are all impacting international business. To survive in this environment, it is even more important for internationally-oriented Swiss companies to focus their market cultivation strategy on their target markets and customer needs. They must also deftly overcome export barriers, which is precisely what these three finalists for the Export Award 2023 are accomplishing.

Dagsmejan: On the path to international success with functional sleepwear
Established in 2016, Zurich-based start-up Dagsmejan produces a new type of functional sleepwear that is optimally tailored to the needs of the sleeping body. Inspired by high-performance sportswear, the two founders have carried out intensive research alongside leading experts in sleep research, materials science and textile technology. Their products are based on natural fibers and are tested according to scientific criteria. Their pajamas have been on the market since 2018. Turnover has grown steadily, reaching 12 million Swiss francs in 2022, of which exports made up 65%. The company plans to further expand its presence in defined core markets.

Megasol Energie AG: Fast international growth
Megasol Energie AG, founded in 1993, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of solar modules and intelligent mounting systems, offering sound advice and smart complete solutions from a single source. Their photovoltaic solar modules and components are developed and manufactured at their Deitingen plant with 155 employees. The company has been particularly successful in the rapidly growing building-integrated photovoltaics sector. Since entering the German market in 2012, Megasol has increasingly shifted its sales activities abroad. The company has already rolled out over 100,000 projects in more than 30 countries. Exports now make up 85% of its business, and this is expected to rise to over 90%.

Statron: A consistent focus on customer needs
Founded in 1976 in Mägenwil, Switzerland, Statron has become the leading international manufacturer of uninterruptible power supply solutions (UPS) and battery systems. These systems are used wherever a continuous flow of energy is required. Statron has production capacities and state-of-the-art test field environments in Switzerland, Malaysia and Hungary. In recent years, the company has seen progressive growth in sales and profits thanks to its absolute focus on customer needs, high quality and Swiss reliability. With its eight subsidiaries and over 200 employees worldwide, this market leader has achieved an export share of over 80%. It plans further targeted growth.

Award presentation at International Trade Forum
The three finalists will be evaluated by an independent jury of experts. The Export Award 2023 will be formally presented on April 26, 2023 at the International Trade Forum at the SwissTech Convention Center in Lausanne. The prize will be presented by Ruth Metzler-Arnold (Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, S-GE) and Simone Wyss Fedele (CEO, S-GE).
