Megasol Energie AG wins Export Award 2023 from Switzerland Global Enterprise

Megasol Energie AG has been operating internationally since 2012 and already generates 85% of sales abroad. By consistently adapting its product range to suit demand, the company has achieved rapid international growth and is now being recognized with the Export Award from Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE). Ruth Metzler-Arnold, President of the Board of Directors of S-GE, and Nicola Thibaudeau, entrepreneur and jury member, presented the prize at the International Trade Forum in Lausanne.

Megasol Energie AG from Deitingen, Solothurn, was selected by the independent, honorary jury as winner of the Export Award 2023. Founded in 1993, the company is now an internationally leading manufacturer of solar modules and smart installation systems. Specializing in customer-specific mass production of building-integrated photovoltaics, Megasol is the only producer worldwide that can deliver every panel in all sizes, shapes, colors, glass surfaces and structures. These offer very high performance and are extremely popular with star architects such as Herzog & de Meuron, Shigeru Ban and others. The photovoltaic solar modules and components are developed and produced at the company’s production site in Deitingen with 155 employees.

Rapid international growth
Since entering the German market in 2012, Megasol has increasingly shifted its sales activities abroad, and has so far implemented over 100,000 projects in over 30 countries. Its export share stands at 85% and is set to rise to over 90%. The company has been particularly successful in the fast-growing segment of building-integrated photovoltaics. Megasol initially relied on regional distribution partners for its business activities in key markets. For its market expansion with complete photovoltaic system, the niche player built on a few in-country partners with specialized installation and market knowledge. By taking on complete construction projects, Megasol was able to gain more market shares.

Award presentation by Ruth Metzler-Arnold
“Megasol Energie AG impressed the jury of the Export Award with its scalable Megasol business model. It’s built on market-oriented development and highly efficient production in Switzerland, and demonstrates forward-looking risk management with a global perspective,” says Ralph Siegl in explanation of the decision. Siegl is president of the honorary, independent jury, made up of renowned figures from the worlds of business, academia and media within Switzerland, which evaluates the finalists and selects the winner. Besides Megasol, Dagsmejan from Zurich and Statron from Mägenwil had qualified for the final.

The trophy was presented to Megasol by Ruth Metzler-Arnold, President of the Board of Directors of S-GE, and Nicola Thibaudeau, entrepreneur and jury member, at the International Trade Forum held at the SwissTech Convention Center in Lausanne. In addition to the trophy the winner receives an export services voucher from S-GE for a new market launch and gold membership for a year. Megasol is also entitled to use the “Export Award” label.
