The Swiss Post is expanding its existing warehouse logistics center in Villmergen in Aargau. By 2025, warehouse space of 57,000 sqm will be created on five floors, making this the company’s biggest logistics center, as Swiss Post AG reported in a press release. The groundbreaking ceremony of the 137-million-franc project took place on 22 June.
“The expansion and renovation will enable us to continue supplying logistics solutions from A to Z to industry and retail in Switzerland and facilitate easier market access,” said Johannes Cramer, Head of Logistics Services and Member of Executive Management at the Swiss Post. For Ueli Lütolf, the Swiss Post is “an important employer in our region”. “We are delighted about the commitment this expansion demonstrates to us as a business location,” said the mayor of Villmergen. According to information provided by the Swiss Post, the expansion of the warehouse logistics center will create around 100 new jobs.
The expansion in Villmergen will also support the Swiss Post’s plans to be carbon neutral by 2040. To help achieve this, a new solar plant will be installed on the roof of the center generating annual output of more than 1,200 megawatt hours. This will be enough to cover a major portion of the energy needs of the new logistics warehouse.
