Stadler has emerged victorious in what was “the largest tender in Swiss rail history”, the rail vehicle construction company based in the St.GallenBodenseeArea writes in a press release. In specific terms, Stadler won an international invitation to tender organized by the railway operators SBB, Thurbo and RegionAlps to deliver up to 510 new trains.

In the initial call-off, Stadler will supply 286 single-decker multiple unit FLIRT trains, the press release explains further. The order volume for the initial call off is estimated to be worth around 2 billion Swiss francs. All vehicles will be fully manufactured in Bussnang in the canton of Thurgau, while the share of the value added generated by this project attributable to Switzerland will total roughly 75 percent, according to Stadler.

Including this latest contract, Stadler has already sold its FLIRT trains more than 2,500 times across 20 different countries, the press release states. “We are proud that our proven FLIRT concept has once again achieved international success”, comments Peter Spuhler, Executive Chairman of the Board of Stadler, in the press release. The new contract can be concluded following the expiration of a 20-day objection period.
