The technology company Bühler, which is headquartered in the St.GallenBodenseeArea, is joining forces with the London-based manufacturer of coffee roasters Ikawa. Within the framework of their partnership, the two companies intend to investigate the potential for product development in the area of micro to medium and industrial-scale coffee roasting, further details of which can be found in a press release. In this context, Bühler is seeking to expand its footprint in the coffee roaster market. Ikawa is globally active in the specialty coffee market.

Together, the partners plan to develop new products by exploring the potential for product development between Ikawa’s market-leading, digital sample roasters and Bühler's RoastMaster series.

The Bühler series comprises four sizes with throughput ranging from 70 kilograms up to 1 ton per hour. The company boasts half a century of coffee engineering expertise, having worked with medium and larger roasters to set up coffee processing plants around the world.

As a start-up, Ikawa launched an app-controlled micro-roasting technology 20 years ago. The Ikawa Pro Series aims to assist coffee companies in their efforts to make better and faster purchasing decisions, for example with the help of a humidity sensor.

“Working together with Ikawa will help us to take new perspectives and therefore create innovative ideas to address the needs between micro and medium to large-scale coffee roasting”, explains Michael Blatter, Head of Market Segment Coffee at Bühler, in the press release.
