The OST - Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences has offered 20 lecturers further training in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). With the teach the teachers seminar, OST is advancing the IT training drive of the canton of St.Gallen (ITBO), ensuring higher education is ready for the challenges of Industry 4.0.

Artificial intelligence plays a vital role for companies on their journey of digital transformation. In their future professions, students will likely be confronted with AI applications whatever their field, so OST lecturers in all 21 faculties are being successively familiarized with this key technology. The first intensive five-day seminar was generally about gaining knowledge on AI, not “making participants into AI experts in five days”, explained Guido Schuster, Head of Interdisciplinary Center for Artificial Intelligence (ICAI) at OST.

The ICAI will focus on conveying theory and reducing barriers for practical implementation and integration into everyday work. Participants learned which AI tools might be beneficial to their faculty. “For example, identifying patterns and structures that can be used to evaluate business, climate or marketing data or for interpreting new disease patterns such as Covid-19 infections in millions of patients”.

Three further block AI seminars are planned after this first success.
