Under the motto of “Energie im Zentrum” (Focus on Energy), the Mobility Congress 2024 took place in Lucerne on March 6. According to a press release issued by the canton of Lucerne, speakers tackled the question as to how the major challenges facing the mobility sector at present can be solved. At the heart of the conference were questions related to electromobility, other non-fossil drives and the reduction of harmful emissions. For example, Helmut Ruhl, CEO of the AMAG Group, offered his view on energy procurement and management, in addition to new business models such as Clyde, the electric car subscription model, and the Allride ridesharing platform. Roland Lötscher, CEO of Mobility, and Markus Kramis, CEO of EVTEC AG, offered greater detail on the subject of bidirectional charging and its potential to transform vehicles into mobile energy solutions.

Luca Castiglioni from the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) and Christian Bach from the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) discussed the urgency of CO2 reduction in the transport sector and possible ways to achieve climate goals through technological innovations and behavioral changes. Moreover, Ruth Aregger from the Lucerne Transport Authority, Verkehrsverbund Luzern (VVL), and Alain Schwald from AVIA Schätzle provided an overview of the current status and potential offered by electric and hydrogen drives.

As the press release explains further, the Mobility Congress reflects the canton of Lucerne’s commitment to becoming climate neutral by 2050. President of the Lucerne cantonal government, Fabian Peter, expressed his view in favor of raising and mobilizing the awareness and commitment of both the general public and businesses in an effort to encourage them to use energy in a more efficient manner.
