The Blockchain in Transport Alliance (BiTA) is a network of companies in technology and logistics that aims to promote the application of blockchain technology in the logistics sector.
Seeking to illuminate the technology’s potential in the sector, it wants to show how blockchain can create a digital record of all transactions and how this then impacts contracts or payments.
BiTA president Chris Burruss welcomedPanalpina’s entry into the alliance, saying that as a company with a long history its contribution would be “very valuable”. Luca Graf, head of digital innovation at Panalpina, added that the company’s innovation team would address blockchain technology in two key ways.
“On the one hand, we will look at ways to integrate blockchain technology in complex core systems in the long run,” he explained. “On the other hand, we will run pilots and trials using blockchain, likely together with start-ups. The focus here lies on exploration and specific market and customer needs.”
