The hydrogen producers Wasserstoffproduktion Ostschweiz AG, founded by Osterwalder St.Gallen AG (AVIA Osterwalder) and St.Gallisch-Appenzellische Kraftwerke AG (SAK), is seeking to manufacture green hydrogen on the basis of renewable energies, as outlined in a press release. To this end, the company is planning to construct a production plant in St.Gallen-Kübel. “The construction application will be submitted in the very near future. If there are no objections to this project, construction work could presumably begin in spring 2020 once plans have been finalized”, the press release explains.

The establishment of the joint-venture company was agreed under the assumption “a breakthrough is imminent” with regard to hydrogen-based mobility solutions. In this context, the press release refers to the project between Hyundai and H2-Energy AG. Together, the two partners are intending to launch a fleet of 1,600 fuel cell lorries exclusively in Switzerland. “The construction of a local hydrogen production plant and comprehensive network of hydrogen filling stations” would therefore also be essential in order to ensure the proper functioning of an “operational, zero-emissions market”.
