Lidl Switzerland has inaugurated a new logistics building directly adjacent to its existing logistics center in Weinfelden in the canton of Thurgau. The new two-story building, constructed in line with the Minergie Standard, will be responsible for handling fruits and vegetables in addition to storing seasonal products from the non-food segment, the retail company writes in a press release. To this end, 17 loading ramps and around 10,000 storage spaces for pallets have been installed at the new logistics center.
The centerpiece of the new logistics building is a fruit ripening chamber where in future green bananas can be brought to maturity before being transported to the 157 Lidl stores located across Switzerland, the press release explains. In addition, other exotic fruits can be ripened here too.
Lidl Switzerland has invested around 35 million Swiss francs in the new building. More than 95 percent of the investments made by the company are directed towards regional service providers from Switzerland, Lidl Switzerland explains in the press release. The new warehouse in the St.GallenBodenseeArea will also create 50 new jobs.
