The Sense, a new innovation and research center focused on sensory science

A new innovation and research center, called The Sense, has been created by the HES-SO Valais-Wallis, the University of Lausanne and the Lausanne University Hospital.

Created by the HES-SO Valais-Wallis, the University of Lausanne (UNIL) and the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), the new innovation and research center, called The Sense, focuses on the creation and dissemination of knowledge about the senses, cognition and human behavior for the benefit of society.

The synergy between the different founding institutions as well as the different fields of research developed will make it possible to improve knowledge and bring new innovations related to sensory science.

The researchers, appointed by each of the three partners and integrated into Sense, are opinion leaders in their respective fields of research. In this context, this new research center brings together and unites major players in the study of neuroscience in order to provide new solutions at the national and international levels.

An intercantonal and interdisciplinary collaboration

This union between research and innovation stakeholders from the cantons of Valais and Vaud is an ambitious opportunity, given the combined know-how of the various research institutes of the HES-SO Valais-Wallis, the UNIL and the CHUV.

"We study the same fields, but from a different perspective. It was both logical and relevant to join forces in order to create a vast intercantonal and interdisciplinary collaboration for the study of the human senses", explains Prof. Olivier Lorentz, Professor at the HES-SO Valais-Wallis and Executive Director of Sense.

The research will be focused around three main topics : Perception & Cognition, Action & Repair, Devices & Data. The 19 researchers and their teams will work on each of these topics in close collaboration.
