With its 1,400 manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and service providers, Switzerland has the largest number of companies involved in medical technologies per resident in Europe. The high-tech medical technology sector is booming and has earned Western Switzerland the nickname "Health Valley", which has enabled the creation of numerous innovative start-ups, a number of which have already received awards for their solutions.
Among them, Lymphatica was selected by the BioVaria award jury as the best emerging start-up in the Startup Pitch & Partner Program. Based in Ecublens (canton of Vaud), Lymphatica developed LymphoDrain, the first implantable artificial lymphatic vessel is a medical device intended to recirculate lymph, re-establishing the physiological fluid equilibrium.
Preventing preterm birth through a non-invasive approach
On the occasion of the ODDO BHF Young Entrepreneurs Awards that took place in STATION F in Paris, Rea won the “Prix Spécial du Jury”. Rea creates an impact on women’s health by helping to prevent preterm birth through a non-invasive approach and medical smart pad (and app) that detects issues early during pregnancy to prevent preterm births. For the first time, women can constantly monitor their pregnancy at home to prevent the issue from happening.
An AI-powered stethoscope to standardize lung ausculation
Held within the framework of the Geneva Health Forum, the Jet d’Or de l’Innovation rewards the innovation that has the greatest impact on health or access to care. Medtech start-up Pneumoscope developed an AI-powered stethoscope at HUG and the EPFL for the diagnosis of tract respiratory diseases. The Pneumoscope project aims to standardize lung auscultation to help healthcare professionals better diagnose pulmonary diseases. More than 160’000 respiratory cycles of healthy and sick patients suffering from bronchiolitis, asthma, pneumonia, Covid-19, COPD, tuberculosis, etc. have been recorded by 35 collaborators in 10 countries.
