UpBoards is ready for serial production

UpBoards has started the serial production of plastic sheets from recycled plastic waste at its purpose-built plant. These sheets can be used on building sites or for furniture, before being returned to the loop at the end of their useful life.

UpBoards from Gretzenbach in the canton of Solothurn has started mass production of its plastic sheets from recycled mixed plastics. For this, the spin-off and subsidiary of Boxs with headquarters in Buchs in the canton of Aargau has just completed a trial phase over several months at its purpose-built plant. According to a press release on startupticker.ch, UpBoards has been working on its production plant since 2019. It has been patented since 2021. In 2022, the startup moved into a production hall of plastic waste recycling company Recoplast in Gretzenbach.

“Our aim is to establish our recycled sheets in the market as the alternative to traditional plastic or wooden sheets,” explained UpBoards co-founder Yannick Tuch. The raw materials are procured from recycling companies. The resultant sheets that are produced can be used in the construction of floors, doors and windows. In furniture making, they can be used for benches, tables and shelves, while in the garden they are ideal for raised beds and water collection systems or creating boundaries on a property or between buildings.

“Since our recycled boards can massively reduce CO2 emissions, we are currently undergoing an accreditation process,” writes Boxs, explaining the environmental benefit. “Plastic waste is no longer burned, stored in landfill or disposed of somewhere, but can be transformed into sheets that have a great variety of uses and can be recycled again in turn.” this creates a closed loop.

Orders have already been placed for the next few months, said Tuch. A cooperation with the builders’ merchant Faserplast will expand the already established customer network.
