On April 21, Storz Medical celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for two new buildings at the company headquarters in Tägerwilen. The manufacturer of devices for shockwave therapy is on the growth path. As such, there is a need for a new warehouse and a new administration building, further details of which can be found in a press release.

Across a total floor area of 3,848 square meters, a storage capacity of 30,000 cubic meters will be built as part of the new warehouse, the press release states. In terms of the new office space, the building will occupy three floors across 2,390 square meters. This is the same as the existing administration building on site. Both new buildings will be of an “extremely high standard” and will feature “top quality, aesthetically pleasing architecture in a timeless design”. The facade of the office building will be made entirely of glass.

The designs were produced by the Stuttgart-based architects office Günter Hermann Architekten, with the general contractor Methabau from Amriswil in the canton of Thurgau engaged to realize the building plans.

The plans also include the installation of a heat pump, which can also be used to cool the offices during the summer. A new photovoltaic system will add another 1,600 solar modules to the 648 already in place, with this expected to generate 1,000 megawatt hours of electricity per year. It is anticipated that 700,000 kilowatt hours of this will be fed into the local grid.

As a result, Storz Medical will supply electricity to at least 155 households and looks set to become “one of the largest private producers of sustainable energy in the canton of Thurgau”, the press release claims.

Storz Medical manufactures and sells medical devices for shockwave therapy across more than 130 countries around the world. The devices are used in areas such as orthopedics, urology, dermatology, neurology, cardiology and veterinary medicine, for example to break up kidney stones. The company employs 259 people worldwide, including 176 at the Tägerwilen site.
