According to an article in “Schweiz am Wochenende”, Adidas is to move a core area of its business to Lucerne. The brand with the three stripes has already established a subsidiary in Lucerne. A spokesperson confirmed to the newspaper that this was part of its plans “to move certain activities of our global commercial operations to Lucerne”. According to the newspaper, this would involve global activities in the areas of footwear, apparel, accessories and equipment.

These business units of Adidas’s global commercial operations are currently handled by its office in Amsterdam and the Group headquarters located in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria. The move would provisionally see around 100 jobs created in Lucerne by mid-2020, the spokesperson confirmed to the newspaper. The first employees are set to make the move to the new location during the current year. The Group is also said to be reviewing the feasibility of moving the Adidas subsidiary based in Cham ZG to the new Lucerne site. Approximately 40 staff members, mainly working in sales, are currently employed in Cham.

Adidas’s aim here is to group functions in one location. “Proximity to Adidas headquarters in Herzogenaurach and to key strategic partners, in addition to the appeal of the location for existing and future employees, were key factors in the move to Lucerne in Switzerland, among other aspects”, Adidas claimed. In addition, the move is said to have been driven by favorable tax implications.
