Together with NPZ Innovation GmbH, plant scientists from the Justus-Liebig University of Giessen have conducted a study on sorghum, investigating the pollen fertility of sorghum F1 hybrids under cold stress, among other things. Sorghum pollen had to be analyzed closely for this.
According to a press release, the German researchers used a product developed by the start-up Amphasys to analyze the sorghum pollen. This was used to determine the size, shape and vitality of biological cells. The process is based on an innovative sensor technology with a patented microchip at the core that has an electrical field through which the cells are channeled.
Amphasys was founded as a spin-off from Axetris AG in 2012 and is based in the Technopark Lucerne. The start-up was granted the W.A. de Vigier award in 2018 for its cell analysis technology.
