The economic region of Baden is characterized by companies active in the medical and health-tech sectors. The life sciences industry has enjoyed significant growth across the canton of Aargau and is seen as one of the canton’s development priorities, further details of which can be found in a press release issued by the city of Baden. Within the framework of a joint pilot project known as Do Tank Aargau, the canton of Aargau, the city of Baden and Baden Cantonal Hospital (KSB) are seeking to strengthen and further expand this focal point industry.
“The aim of Do Tank Aargau is to generate additional innovation - both in Baden and further afield”, comments Thomas Lütolf, who heads up the city’s economic promotion division. The pilot project supports Baden’s municipal development strategy for key sectors of the economy. In the city of Baden alone, more than 50 companies are active in the areas of medicine and healthcare technology, which generate added value and employ around 3,000 people. Do Tank Aargau will now seek to expand this offering.
The project is affiliated to the Health Innovation Hub of KSB. Also included is the collaboration in research and teaching between KSB and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH). In fact, three ETH Zurich professors will be stationed at the hospital’s health campus in the space at Partnerhaus II.
“It takes strong partners to make innovation possible in the healthcare industry. Together with the canton and the city of Baden, KSB will successfully implement the MedTech Region Baden innovation cluster”, says Daniel Heller, Chairman of the Board of Directors at KSB.
The three-year Do Tank Aargau pilot project starts on October 1, 2023. The canton is supporting the project to the tune of 335,000 Swiss francs, while the city of Baden will contribute services totaling 180,000 Swiss francs.
