Noor Biotech has established a presence in Basel. The recently founded start-up is focusing on the development of a biosensor platform that is intended to be used for efficient, reliable and cost-effective detection of inflammatory diseases at an early stage. In turn, this should help to ensure prompt and targeted treatment approaches. According to the company, later plans will focus on expanding the platform to cover other diseases and health conditions.

In Basel, the company will continue its development work and is striving to commercialize its platform during the course of this year. Over the longer term, the plan is to employ up to 40 staff. The investment and innovation promotion agency Basel Area Business & Innovation supported Noor Biotech in establishing its presence in Basel.

Noor Biotech is headed up by co-founder Nuha Alekhmini, who studied biomedical sciences and cellular biology at Alfaisal University in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh. Thereafter, she graduated from Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany.

Positive economic framework conditions in Basel were a significant pull factor behind Noor Biotech establishing a business presence in the region, the company explains. Other key factors included the science cluster and the laboratory infrastructure on offer, in addition to proximity to potential partners and customers.

Biosensor technologies are becoming increasingly vital for progress in the healthcare sector. Non-invasive, low-cost, high-resolution and portable biosensors can be used on a large scale. A biosensor detects a specific biological analyte and monitors its function within a biological environment.
