Turning waste into diesel

Quamm AG uses waste materials to manufacture synthetic diesel in an emissions-free process that takes only a few minutes. The company was founded by two entrepreneurs.

Quick production, low costs – these are among the advantages of the diesel manufacturing process developed by Quamm AG. As Wirtschaft Regional reported, Reinhard Lenziger and Hans Berger – the company’s founders – have developed an approach that could solve the waste problem facing a number of countries. They use biomass, wood, waste oil, recycled remains and even plastic as their starting materials. A chemical-physical reaction then produces synthetic diesel or kerosene in just a short amount of time – without generating emissions or dangerous by-products.

The company has applied for a patent for its technology, although there are still some technical hurdles to overcome. Quamm AG, which is located in the St.GallenBodenseeArea, now wants to collaborate with other companies and scientific institutes to build testing facilities.

“Up to 80 per cent of the energy contained in the biomass can be recovered,” claims Quamm AG in the article. The company is now searching for investors, and construction is set to begin later this year.

Quamm AG has set itself an ambitious goal: it wants to export its technology from Widnau in the canton of St.Gallen to the rest of the world.
