Trust Square occupies 2,300 square metres across three storeys, and has around 200 workspaces designed for startups, researchers and investors in the field of blockchain applications.

Almost all the new blockchain centre’s workspaces have already been snapped up. Of these, some are reserved for research projects at the centre’s partner universities – the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, the University of Zurich (UZH), the University of Basel, and the University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil (HSR). Others are occupied by the centre’s two partner companies, the law firms Froriep AG and Rentsch Partner AG.

Carmen Walker Späh, Director of Economic Affairs in Zurich, officially opened the new centre, which is privately initiated and financed but works closely with the location promotion office in the canton of Zurich.

She commented: “Trust Square strengthens Zurich’s standing as a location for digital innovation and complements the varied blockchain ecosystem in the region, which already consists of university institutions and numerous startups.”

The inauguration celebrations also featured talks by a number of international experts. Among them were Eva Kaili, Member of the European Parliament, Dirk Bullmann, Fintech Coordinator at the European Central Bank, and Sébastien Kraenzlin, Head of Banking Operations at the Swiss National Bank.
