ETH Zurich is leading university in continental Europe

In the latest QS World University Rankings, the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich) moved up to rank 7 and is now the best university of continental Europe. Eight other Swiss universities made it in the list as well, proving the high level of research and internationality at Swiss institutions.

ETH Zurich has achieved its best result to date in this year’s QS World University Rankings. It is now considered the seventh best university in the world, and the number one in continental Europe. The leading places went to American universities MIT, Stanford, Harvard, and Caltech as well as to Britain’s Oxford and Cambridge. The QS World University Rankings analyzes1233 universities from around the world and is considered one of the most cited indicators of university quality, along with the Times Higher Education and the Shanghai rankings.

ETH Zurich performed notably well for Internationality, Citations per Faculty as well as Academic Reputation. It reached an overall score of 95,3/100.

ETH Zurich president, Lino Guzzella, proudly commented, “The ranking reflects a great team effort from the entire ETH community. A community that dedicates their talents to outstanding teaching and research supported by a highly motivated administrative and technical staff. As a public university, for ETH such a result also reflects the support and commitment of the Swiss society.” The ETH community consists of more than 20,600 students from over 120 countries, 530 professors, and 9,400 staff members.

Swiss universities prove high level of research in global comparison

A total of nine Swiss universities made it in the QS World University Rankings, seven of which in the top 200. Five of them are among the first 100 for Citations per Faculty – underscoring the high level of research in all of Switzerland. Although EPFL Lausanne lost ground in this year’s ranking, it is still one of the best research institutions worldwide, with a score of 100/100 for International Student Ration and International Faculty Ratio as well as with a very high position (14) in Citations per Faculty.
