According to a press release, the Swiss Blockchain Hackathon will take place in Zurich’s Trust Square blockchain hub from 21 to 23 June. At the event, around 200 developers from Switzerland and abroad will collaborate on new solutions for specific real-world problems in fields as diverse as mobility, agriculture and food, finance, supply chains, public services and sports. Industry partners of the competition will set the challenges. These include Accenture, Agroscope, the Post, GCZ, SIX Digital Exchange, the Zurich Transport Network (ZVV) and the canton of Zurich. The challenges will be developed in collaboration with various top-tier academic institutions. The specific challenges will be published on the website of Hackaton in March and developers can register for the competition from April.
The competition is organized by Trust Square, the Bitcoin Association Switzerland, CV Labs, the Crypto Valley Association, the Swiss Blockchain Federation and swissICT. The main goal of the partners is to help turn the promise of blockchain into “tangible applications and business models”. “With the initial hype slowly fading, it is now the time to demonstrate the power of blockchain to solve real-life business problems,” commented Trust Square co-founder Marc Degen. By fostering a sustainable technology ecosystem, the competition aims to also “further strengthen Switzerland’s position as a leading location for blockchain research and development”.
