Geneva welcomes the CyberPeace Institute

Geneva welcomes the CyberPeace Institute, an organization dedicated to assisting vulnerable communities, promoting transparency and participating in international discussions about behaviour in cyberspace.

Microsoft has partnered with the Hewlett Packard Foundation and Mastercard to launch the CyberPeace Institute.

As part of a new initiative to secure cyberspace, the CyberPeace Institute has three main missions. The first is to coordinate recovery efforts for the most vulnerable victims of cyber attacks. The second is to facilitate the collective analysis, research and investigation of cyber attacks, including damage assessment. The third is to promote positive and responsible behavior in cyberspace, in particular by furthering compliance with international laws and rules.

The CyberPeace Institute will be deployed in conjunction with the Swiss Digital Initiative, which was announced in Geneva at the beginning of September. This foundation, which notably includes Microsoft, Crédit Suisse, Google, Huawei, Ringier and Swisscom, aims to create the foundations for a safer web.

Geneva, the world center for Internet regulations

The establishment of the CyberPeace Institute in Geneva is in keeping with the Geneva Digital Talks, an initiative launched in 2017 by the Geneva authorities to position the canton as a global center for the regulation of Internet-related technologies.

"Geneva is the most active global governance center on the planet," explains Pierre Maudet, Geneva's State Councillor in charge of the economic development. "Its multidisciplinary approach and the presence of a particularly dynamic network of local, international, public, private and academic stakeholders will always make the difference.”
