FAIRTIQ will help digitize Denmark’s electronic ticketing system

Bernese mobility start-up FAIRTIQ is partnering with Rejsekort & Rejseplan A/S and Nordjyllands Trafikselskab on a pilot project to completely digitize Denmark’s existing electronic ticketing system.

FAIRTIQ has registered multiple successes in several European countries with its Pay-As-You-Go mobile ticketing service. The app allows users to check in and check out rather than buying a ticket from the driver, at a ticket vending machine or at the booking office.

With over 65 million trips made, FAIRTIQ is now the most successful iPhone- and Android-compatible check-in/check-out solution worldwide. The company based in Bern has built up an impressive partner network of public transport providers and associations in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and Liechtenstein.

Following the launch in two major France regions, FAIRTIQ is going far north with a pilot project in Denmark with partners Rejsekort & Rejseplan A/S and Nordjyllands Trafikselskab (NT) have kicked off their pilot project in North Jutland.

“The pilot project will be an opportunity for us to test a fully digital bus and train ticketing solution. This will be a first for the Danish public transport sector”, explained Kasper A. Schmidt, CEO of Rejsekort & Rejseplan A/S. “It will allow us to find out if this solution can handle the requirements of the current Rejskort system and resolve the problems that we have experienced with it so far.”

Making an advanced transport system even more innovative thanks to Swiss tech

Rejsekort and NT will be integrated in the FAIRTIQ app, allowing users to purchase their ticket directly by sliding the Start button before they board the bus or train and sliding it back upon reaching their destination. The app’s Smart Stop feature reminds users to check out.

“We are delighted that our app will be used in this pilot, which aims to make Denmark’s highly advanced public transport system even more innovative than it already is,” concludes Gian-Mattia Shuca, CEO of FAIRTIQ.
