Just like nearly every country in the Middle East, Bahrain is mainly dependent on oil and gas. There is one big difference, however: Some years ago, Bahrain’s oil reserves threatened to dry up. In response to this, Bahrain throttled its production to 200,000 barrels a day. The small production allowed Bahrain to become independent of its own oil fields and it started to process oil coming from Saudi Arabia’s Aramco on a large scale. However, in 2018 a researcher found an 80-billion barrel oil field and a 250-500 billion cubic meter gas field on Bahraini territory. This discovery is set to completely change the country’s economy and will most certainly boost investments in every sector.
