Spain is one of the EU's five largest economies and, thanks to its language, a conduit to Latin American markets. While the economy has remained stagnant for quite a long time, double-digit growth figures now seem to indicate a rosier future.

Together with the Swiss Economic Institute at the ETH Zurich, S-GE has created a ranking of the top export markets. It shows which markets are particularly attractive for Swiss SMEs.

Unemployment in Spain remains high (trending downwards), but nonetheless offers great potential for Swiss SMEs due to the many highly-qualified and young university graduates.

Spain's economy is still catching up in most areas due to the recent crisis.

Particularly worth noting is that the number of innovative SmartCities in Spain has increased sharply. Accordingly, the digital economy plays a major role and shows great potential for growth. The situation with sustainable environmental technology is similar. To increase efficiency, municipal or state tasks will increasingly be awarded to Public Private Partnerships. This includes in particular waste management services or air improvement activities.
